Pesticides
Pesticide ban Quebec's pesticide management code came into force in April 2003, and the municipal council adopted a by-law to ban the outdoor use of pesticides in June, 2003. This is designed to preserve the quality of life, the environment and public health on our territory. These two regulations are complementary.
The Quebec pesticide management law bans the sale of products that contain the following active ingredients: Lindan, Malathion, Permethrin, Captan; as well as fertilizer-pesticide products (i.e. Weed 'n FeedT) among others.
For further information, call the Coalition for alternatives to pesticides (C A P) at 1-800-214- 1214 or consult the website:www.cap-quebec.com.
The use and application of pesticides is banned throughout the entire territory of the Municipality, with the exception of swimming pools, decorative ponds and artificial ponds with no inlet or outlet. This ban does not apply to low-impact pesticides. — By-law 03-291
The ban does not apply to parts of properties used for agricultural purposes by agricultural producers, situated more than 5 metres from the littoral of a lake or a watercourse.
It is the responsibility of the landowner or tenant to ensure that warning notices are posted to inform the public that a pesticide has been applied and that all contact with the treated surface must be avoided. These notices must be located in such a way that people can read them without having to walk on the treated surface.
