Garbage pick-up and recycling

Calendar for garbage and recycling

Household garbage going to landfill

Garbage is picked-up up every other Monday, including holidays, except for Christmas and New Year’s Day, alternating with pick-up of recyclable materials.

If the holiday falls on a Monday, garbage (or recyclables) is picked up the following day.

We remind you that the municipal by-law requires that garbage to be picked up by the Municipality must be placed in plastic bags and placed within a watertight, animal-proof covered container.

Garbage that will not be picked up
Manure, earth, sand, pipes, construction material, construction debris, explosives, rubble, plaster, trunks of wood, chunks of concrete and masonry, pieces of paving, tires, car bodies, car parts including batteries and tires of all kinds, hazardous wastes, used oils, paints, solvents.

Intermunicipal agreement with Potton
Now that an intermunicipal agreement has been signed with Potton, you can easily get rid of bulky garbage, textiles and scrap metal and certain dangerous household materials (some chemicals, solvents, oils); you can take these items to the Eco-centre at 5 West Hill Road in Mansonville in the township of Potton. The site will be open every Saturday from mid-May to the end of October, from 8 am to 1 pm. You must bring identification (tax bill or driver’s license).

Construction and demolition materials
Any person who has to dispose of rubble and construction materials must make his own arrangements with an authorized company that will dispose of the materials in compliance with the law.

Construction materials can also be taken to the Eco-centre at Mansonville. A fee based on the volume is charged to defray the real cost of the service. All materials brought in are taken to the Centre de recuperation de Gestion Richer where everything possible will be recycled before the remaining waste is sent to landfill.

Recoverable and recyclable materials

We encourage you to put your recoverable and recyclable materials in the blue recycling bin delivered to you during the winter.

For reasons of safety, let us all act responsibly by only putting out recyclable materials from the list of accepted products below, so as not to contaminate the rest of the load, or cause accidents during the triage process.

Selective collection

Recoverable and recyclable materials are collected every two weeks according to the schedule.

List of recyclable materials accepted and refused

* Citizens are encouraged to take these materials to the ecocentre of the MRC.

Paint

Recovery of left-over paint
Don't forget that there is a container for leftover paint behind the fire station at 23 Millington Road beside the town hall. This container has been made available so your leftover paint can be recycled; there is no charge for this service. The container is kept locked, so you must come to the town hall during regular office hours. Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 or take advantage of the pick-up of used tires that will take place on Saturday, July , behind the fire station, to bring your recyclable paints then too.

Don't forget! Bring your containers of leftover paint at the same time as your old tires!

The date of the tire collection will be announced at the beginning of July.

Emptying of septic tanks

Septic tanks are emptied every two years for permanent residents. The work begins in June and ends in September / October.

A notice is sent out 10 days before the work is to be done asking residents to clear off the cover or covers of the system and make sure the tank is accessible, before the contractor comes.

After the tank is cleaned, a receipt is left to advise the owner that he or she may again replace the covers, if necessary.

For seasonal residents, the septic tanks are cleaned out every four years. The next cleaning of tanks for seasonal residents will be carried out in 2006 and 2006.
