EMERGENCY : 911
Street numbers Can your street number be seen from the road? It is particularly important in the event of an emergency that first responders or firemen can find you . and, besides, it's the law! Make sure that your street number is clearly visible and well-lighted. In an emergency, consider posting someone outside to meet the first responders. Every minute counts!

What to do before, during and after a disaster ?
A guide in French dealing with preventive measures and what to do in this type of situation is available now, and an English guide will soon be available, by clicking on this link.
Visit by the fire prevention specialist As part of the fire protection plan, a system of fire prevention visits will be instituted; each residence on the territory of Austin and served by the Austin fire department will be visited by the fire prevention specialist.
Reminder! smoke detectors
Smoke detectors must be installed in any new building, according to the National Building Code (NBC art. 9.10.18).
Don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors at least every six months. Many people make a habit of changing the batteries in their smoke alarms when the time changes (in April and October).
Propane gas tanks To prevent explosions, and for the safety of firemen in case of fire, the Municipality must make an inventory of all residences with any type of propane gas stove or other heating or cooking appliance (with the exception of gas barbecues). If you have such an installation, please send us a short note, if you have not already done so, with your tax payment, with a sketch indicating where the tank is located.
